From
its very beginning in 1870, Storm Lake was destined to be a community
to look up to in North West Iowa. With basic foundations
of a beautiful
3,000 acre lake the town grew to become the county seat of Buena
Vista
County as well as the home of Buena Vista University, one of
the leading private 4 year colleges in the Midwest. The University "forum" with
its 100,000 square feet of underground classrooms, dining facility,
auditorium and meeting room area is a must see stop.
Storm Lake's base population including Lakeside, Casino, South Shore
and Bel Air Beach is approximately 9500 residents, and growing.
The financial
needs of our community are also served by four banks, two Savings
and Loans and a Credit Union. The trade center of the area,
Storm Lake also provides a modern downtown business area, and shopping
mall area on Highway 71 north. The city's retail sales figures are consistently
a leader in Western Iowa.
The
area is further served by Iowa Central Community College, a 9-hole
municipal golf course, a private 18-hole golf course, two nursing
homes and fourteen
churches. The employment leaders of the community are Tyson Pork Processing
and Sara Lee Foods, a turkey processing facility, Merrill Manufacturing
and Methodist Manor.

happening now on the lake, courtesy of Sail
